Task 1
Finding the Starting Point:
Latitude/Longitude of your Travel Bug

There are two ways of finding the starting longitude/latitude of your travel bug.

The best way is with a GPS unit.

1. Turn on GPS unit
2. Wait a few minutes for the GPS unit to get the proper reading
3. Make sure the GPS unit DATUM setting is set to WGS84 or NAD83
4. Make sure the cooridinate setting is set to "degree and decimal minutes"
5. Move to the location of where you will be setting up the geocache for your Travel Bug
6. From the positioning screen, record the latitude and longitude from the screen
7. Write the cooridinates down so you can enter them later on the web page.

The second way is using a web site.

1. Go to MAPTECH MapServer
2. Enter city name
3. Select the state name
4. Click on "Go"
5. A list will come up with possibilities, pick the one that sounds like the best fit
6. Make sure "Coordinates" is set to: DM.MM
7. Move the cursor to the location of where you will be setting up the a geocache
8. Please follow the suggested guidelines from www.geocaching.com for locating a cache

9. Write the cooridinates down so you can enter them later on the web page

If the above site is down or can not be located, try this link:

1. Go to TOPOZONE
2. Scroll down and enter the city name
3. Select the state name and click on "Search"
4. A list will come up with possibilities, pick the one that sounds like the best fit
5. Set "Map Size" to large
6. Make sure "Coordinate Format" is set to: DD.MM.MM and hit "Update Map"
7. Move the cursor to the location of where you will be seting up the a geocache.
8. Please follow the suggested guidelines from www.geocaching.com for locating a cache.

9. The reading will appear at the top of the map
10. Write the cooridinates down so you can enter them later on the web page
